Just What They Need

Hundreds of thousands of people in Myanmar are suffering wholesale displacement, hunger, thirst and disease.

So what kind of aid does the UN send?

Bangkok - The United Nations will send nearly a quarter of a million condoms into cyclone-hit Myanmar to help needy survivors with no access to contraceptives, a UN official says.

So far, the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) said it had sent 72,800 condoms to survivors struggling to maintain their family planning after the storm hit in early May.

A total of 218,400 condoms would be delivered, UNFPA aid advisor Chaiyos Kunanusont said.

"We don't want regular use of contraception disrupted. An emergency usually damages the health system, so people don't have access to condoms and contraceptives," said Chaiyos.

Are we surprised that these lunkheads in the UN equate access to condoms on the same level as access to food, water and shelter?

Idiots.

UNUSFF

An entire UN detachment of 700 men has been suspended from peace making duties in the country of Cote d'Ivoire while they are investigated for allegations of misconduct.

The United Nations said on Saturday it had suspended a Moroccan military contingent from its peacekeeping mission in Cote d'Ivoire while it investigated allegations of widespread sexual abuse.

It seems all too often that whenever and where ever a UN peace keeper detachment is deployed, the forced deportations of UN troops soon follow. But of course these stories are buried in the back pages of the the International News Section. If the Moroccans had made these women into a naked human pyramid or posed them with dog leashes, we would never hear the end of it, right?

"It means they don't participate in our operations," said Hamadoun Toure, spokesman for the U.N. mission in Cote d'Ivoire (ONUCI).

Now that's gonna harsh the Moroccan mellow. Underpaid, poorly trained, oversexed soldiers forced not to go on patrol. Say it ain't so Yogi!

Sending some of these third world shithole countries as UN troops for peacekeeping is like assigning Michael Moore to guard a train load of Twinkies.

"Those who are found guilty will be sent back home."

Drop the twelve year old and step awaaay from the condom dispenser. That's it. Nice and slow now.

The world body said the measure was in addition to a decision to confine the entire battalion of 734 soldiers to barracks.

In addition, UN officials are considering another measure; the Moroccans may be subjected to the "Mother Of All Time Outs."

U.N. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said on Friday the investigation involved Moroccan soldiers having sex with a large number of underage girls in the West African country's northern rebel stronghold of Bouake.

I have yet to find punitive measures taken against any UN troops who have been found guilty of crimes against those whom they were supposed to protect. I can't even find mention where these men have been subjected to trials. What I do find is the media wringing its hands over UN abuses and ... nothing. Like this ABC News report last year.

UN peacekeepers and humanitarian staff are having sex with Liberian girls as young as 8-years-old in the very camps where their families have sought protection, according to a new report by Save the Children UK. Along with UN peacekeepers, the report says that camp officials, humanitarian staff, government employees and even teachers are involved in the sex trade with young Liberian girls.

Men often trade inexpensive items such as beans, bulgur wheat or even rides in their UN vehicles for sex with the young girls.

Well, it may be a step above plastic beads and blankets. Is this how the UN distributes humanitarian aid? Underage Sex For Food? Sounds like an acronym we can all live with, UNUSFF. Perhaps if Saddam had tried teenage sodomy with the UN he'd still be in power.

The UN said that since the beginning of the year, eight sexual abuse and exploitation cases involving UN personnel in Liberia have been reported to the internal UN office in charge of investigating all cases of serious misconduct. One of those cases has been substantiated, and the staff member was immediately suspended.

That'll teach him. Send him home where he'll have to pay cash up front for these services.

And people look to the UN for international leadership, even a fledgling world government. It makes me sick.

What The UN Does Best

The United Nations has received the usual kind of press that we may come to expect from this august body: drunkness and whoring.

UN staff in East Timor have been severely reprimanded and had an 11pm curfew imposed in an attempt to wipe out rampant drink driving.

One foreign employee has resigned and been sent home after allegedly drunkenly assaulting police when she was stopped while driving erratically in the capital, Dili.

[...] since March 1, there had been more than 80 traffic accidents where UNMIT vehicles were the only ones involved, and that "the frequency of accidents has been increasing significantly".

Excuse me. I acccidently omitted several of the UN's sterling qualities, it's Drunkeness, Assaulting Police Officers, Demolishing UN Property and Whoring. Now for the whoring.

UNITED Nations police and civilian staff are openly violating what the UN promised would be a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual abuse and misconduct in deeply religious East Timor.

Expatriates in Dili say a dozen brothels have recently opened in the city, with UN vehicles parked outside most nights. Teenage Timorese prostitutes gather just before dusk opposite a hotel on Dili's waterfront, where UN vehicles can be seen picking them up.

It is apparent what knid of economic development the UN is bringing to poor countries around the world. Bawdy houses and red light districts.

"It's disgusting … these people who have supposedly come here to help the Timorese are abusing these poor girls," says an Australian mechanic drinking in the hotel's second-floor bar, where he observes the scene every night.

One of the brothels is employing a dozen ethnic-Chinese prostitutes, expatriates say.

A UN employee told The Age that the world body was turning a blind eye to prostitution by its employees.

This is not a blind eye. This is a wink and a nod. But this is nothing new. UN forces have a proud tradition of drunkeness and rape (also here) to uphold while being supported by US tax dollars.

More UN Asshattery

I read this at LC BlackisWhite's site and tried to comment on it. The new blogger crap popped up and I lost the comment, the site and everything else (curse you Google) so I decided to bring it home and post it here. Thanks BisW.

We got harangued on Friday with a report from the UN that states we're all gonna die in ten years or 100 years or so from the melting snowcaps and cross dressing polar bears. Now these tree-tonguing nutbags are finally showing their true colors. From the Globe & Mail:

PARIS — Hundreds of scientists, business leaders, and non-governmental organizations have called for a new United Nations agency to manage the environment.

The new agency would transform the existing UN Environment Program, into “a fully-fledged international organization that is genuinely universal,” French President Jacques Chirac told delegates to the Citizens of the Earth conference, which was organized by his government.

If you thought Operation Rescue Helpless Rwandans was a debacle, just wait until the Fwench and their European compatriots attempt to rescue the whole stinking planet. This should be good for at least 400 million deaths. The existing UN Environment Program should be transformed into an empty suite of offices.

“We know that humans are destroying, at an alarming rate, resources and balances that have enabled them to evolve and are determining their future,” he said. “We must admit to ourselves that we can no longer afford to be idle and that the risks and dangers are exacerbated with each passing day.”

If you were thrilled by the provisions of the Kyoto Treaty, you'll be overjoyed when Chirac and his minions cob together another UN fiscal black hole demanding bribes financial support.

Thought the UN's Oil for Food Program was bad? Just wait until the UN's "Dialing for BTU's" takes off. The energy/pollution credits will be up for grabs to the highest bidder like an emergency emasculation kit at a Rosie O'Donnell auction.

There is no excuse for us to resist this environmental movement because, well, Chirac says so.

Delegates at the meeting said UN efforts to protect the environment until now have been ineffective because of a lack of political commitment and because there is too much red tape. Mr. Chirac said the new organization would be a “strong voice with universal recognition.” It would assess environmental damage, monitor various agreements to protect the environment, and promote technology to protect ecosystems.

He also called for an international declaration that would make the right to a sound environment a universal human right. [Emphasis mine]

And there it is. If it is a right, then it must be enforced. Our parochial Bill of Rights is not enough. More, much more is needed. And our Supreme Court has already put into play the notion that they must take into consideration international laws during their deliberations. Whether or not it takes root is another matter, but all that is needed is a few democratic administrations making appointments to the bench; this could be reality.

Key world polluters — including the United States, China, India and Russia — steered clear of the proposed new agency, while Europeans embraced it. A total of 46 countries agreed to pursue plans for the organization, and to hold their first meeting in Morocco this spring.

Without naming the United States directly, Mr. Chirac expressed frustration that "some large countries, large rich countries, still must be convinced." They are "refusing to accept the consequences of their acts," he said.

I'm not surprised that we have been labelled as "key world polluters." But who is the world's worst polluter? If you go here it is the Australians, if you go here it is Ireland, if you go here it is the USA, if you go here it is the Chinese. Japan is bringing up the #4 slot and India is also in the mix. Go ahead and tell a billion Indians or a billion and a half Chinese that Al Gore only wants them to flush once with their brand new toilet.

Chirac has found himself a cheese eating hand puppet.

Quebec Premier Jean Charest, who was at the conference, said Quebec will support the new organization “whether Canada does or not.”

This putz has no authority to sign treaties. It's like Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer saying he's going to Russia to negotiate a nuclear nonproliferation treaty with Putin.

Get Out Of Jail Free Card

The United Nations once again proves that it is unfit to guard a newstand much less a nation. This just in from Fox News:

Six Bangladeshi peacekeepers under United Nations command were demoted, dismissed or reprimanded for their roles in a sex-abuse case while on assignment in the Sudan, but U.N. officials are powerless to bring charges or prosecute the soldiers for their alleged crime.

Nonetheless, Jane Holl Lute, assistant secretary-general for peacekeeping operations, thinks the punishment is enough.

But let some US soldiers pile naked terrorists in a pyramid and these same UN clowns are screaming for prison sentences. It's like a "Get out Of Jail Free" card in Monoply board game. You just have to wear a blue helmet. The hypocrisy sickens me.

Rapists, any raptists, should rot in prison, but the UN feels that demotions, dismissals and reprimands (Bad rapist! Bad!) are sufficient.

I guess that the soldiers at Abu Ghraib would have been better off if they sodomized the prisoners instead of stacking them.

The particulars of the Sudanese sex abuse case are pretty much the same where ever UN "peacekeepers" are stationed; rape and sex slavery seems to flourish under the blue helmets. From a March, 2005 article in the Guardian:

The reputation of United Nations peacekeeping missions suffered a humiliating blow yesterday as an internal report identified repeated patterns of sexual abuse and rape perpetrated by soldiers supposed to be restoring the international rule of law.

[...]The embarrassment caused by the misconduct of UN forces in devastated communities around the world - including Haiti, Sierra Leone, Bosnia, Cambodia , East Timor and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) - has become an increasingly high profile, political problem.

And the MSM has increasingly ignored it.

Alarm about the involvement of UN peacekeepers in sex trafficking first became widespread during the 1990s when investigators found soldiers were customers in brothels run in Bosnia and Kosovo which relied on women sold into forced prostitution. One recent estimate suggested up to 2,000 women have been coerced into sex slavery in Kosovo.

The Guardian article continues:

"sexual exploitation and abuse mostly involves the exchange of sex for money (on average $1-$3 per encounter), for food (for immediate consumption or to barter later) or for jobs". [...]"The reality of prostitution and other sexual exploitation in a peacekeeping context is profoundly disturbing because the United Nations has been mandated to enter into a broken society to help it, not to breach the trust placed in it by the local population." There have even been reports of paedophilia committed by peacekeepers.

The UN has been out of control for quite some time. Corrupt UN bureaucrats can't keep their hands out of our pockets and UN peacekeepers can't keep it in their pants.
