PITTSBURGH, April 4 (UPI) -- Police in Pittsburgh say three officers were killed Saturday and two seriously wounded before an armed man was taken into custody.
The suspect was identified as Richard Poplawski, 23, alleged barricaded himself inside his home and began firing at police Saturday morning with a high-power rifle, police sources told The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
For at least a couple of hours, several of the officers were pinned down and could not be removed for treatment without risking further attack, said police spokeswoman Diane Richard.
Unfortunately the suspect was taken into custody and is not compost-ready.
These last few weeks remind me of the 60's and 70's when cops were going down left and right.
